JEFF MARTIN, lead singer and guitarist of the iconic Canadian band The Tea Party, is heading to Eumundi for a solo gig on Friday 15 May as part of his Set in Stone Tour. He will be supported by blues rock singer-songwriter and guitarist NATHAN CAVALERI.
Promising to be a whole new live experience, the tour will feature songs from Jeff’s upcoming solo release, including single Set in Stone, as well as crowd favourites for good measure.
Set in Stone is a “deep, dark and dirty” blues jam that borders on a “religious experience” featuring some extraordinary musicians, including drummer/percussionist Terepai Richmond (D.I.G, John Butler Trio), vocalist Lisa Hunt, and Jamie Ashforth on harmonica, and of course, Martin’s powerful vocals and multi-instrument prowess.
“When I first picked up the guitar at seven years old, even at that young age, I was drawn to the blues. My father always had blues music playing in the house, artists such as Robert Johnson, Leadbelly, Howling Wolf, just to name a few," says Jeff.
"When I started writing Set In Stone last year I found myself revisiting some of my earliest blues influences. The song just opened up Pandora’s box, as if I’d written this song years ago, and suddenly I could hear every detail of every instrument and every melody. There’s no denying, of course, my great love and resounding influence of Led Zeppelin will always find its way in to songs like this.
"The story behind the lyrics of Set In Stone is about the eternal battle between the light and dark side of our psyche. It’s that battle that continues to fuel my poetic fire. To understand and respect both sides, for me, makes me feel complete as an artist," he says.
"To be able to tour and play my new music is going to be a powerful experience that I look forward to sharing with the audience. We will all go on this journey together,” says Jeff.

Jeff Martin's reputation as a world renowned live performer is well known and he has been labeled everything from “child prodigy”, “virtuoso guitarist”, and a “singer with perfect pitch”.
Jeff formed The Tea Party with his lifelong friends, Stuart Chatwood and Jeff Burrows in 1990 after many years of playing in bands together throughout their childhood.
With a career spanning over 20 years, 8 major-label releases and 4 million record sales later, The Tea Party successfully gained the attention of fans worldwide, as well as touring countless times throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia.
In addition to his incredible career with The Tea Party, Jeff has carved out a distinctive and successful career for himself as a solo artist, various other side projects and as an acclaimed and highly sought after producer. His life has vastly been an exquisite journey immersing himself in many cultures, and learning to play the traditional instruments from those cultures from the masters of the craft - in particular the Middle East, and sub continents of India. His home and studio are filled with ancient instruments he’s collected on his travels - all of which he plays fluently.
A Jeff Martin show is one that moves the audience to realms like no other and many have likened his acoustic shows to ‘a religious experience’ that stays with them forever. This will be a powerful musical journey not to be missed.
Joining Jeff in Eumundi is NATHAN CAVALERI - known by many as the child prodigy guitarist who had beaten leukaemia and who, at the age of 12 found himself the centre of a bidding war between the labels of Michael Jackson, Prince and Madonna.
By 16, he’d toured with B.B. King as his guest, and played at the Kennedy Centre in front of The Clintons with Etta James and Bonnie Raitt. Whether it was signing a CD for Jimmy Page, jamming with Dire Straits Mark Knopfler or being called “The Bomb” by Dr Dre, Nathan viewed the world just as any kid would, with childish naivety.
It’s only now that he has experienced the depths of adulthood adversities, that he reflects on past accomplishments in awe as if it was lived by another.
“This time around, I wanted to express more than blues would allow. Each track throughout the writing and production process conformed to no specific genre and called upon an array of my favourite artists - from J.J.Cale and B.B.King to Bowie, Lana Del Ray, and Mos Def,” says Nathan.
