Join us in The Brewery at The Imperial Hotel Eumundi on Friday 22 May to hear songs and stories from Irish folk singer and bouzouki player Daoirí (pronounced ‘Derry’) Farrell.
He's been described by some of the biggest names in Irish folk music as one of most important singers to come out of Ireland in recent years.
Farrell worked as a electrician for 10 years before he finally decided to follow his passion for traditional folk music, after watching a performance by the legendary Christy Moore, the older brother of Luka Bloom.
From there Farrell cut his teeth singing and playing bouzouki at the famous Góilin Singers Club, before he gained a formal education in traditional folk at the Ballyfermont College and University of Limerick.
But it was his 2016 album 'True Born Irishman' that announced Farrell as one of Ireland's rising folk stars. Six months after releasing the album, Farrell won two prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2017 for Best Newcomer, and Best Traditional Track and performed live at the awards ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
He has since performed in Australia, Canada, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, The Czech Republic, USA, Portugal and more and played festivals including Cambridge Folk Festival, Milwaukee Irish Festival, Vancouver Island Folk Festival, the National Folk Festival of Australia and many more.
In 2018 he toured the UK with Transatlantic Sessions and recorded his next album 'A Lifetime Of Happiness' with Dónal Lunny in the producer’s chair.
